Has your child chipped or broken a tooth? When this happens, it is considered a dental emergency, and your child needs to see their dentist right away to repair the tooth and prevent any future problems. Here is what you need to know about how much it costs to fix a chipped tooth.
The total procedure can range from a few hundred dollars for a small chip that only requires dental bonding, to a few thousand for a more severe chip or break that may require root canal surgery and a crown.
Below are cost estimates for fixing a chipped tooth, without dental insurance.
If your child chips or breaks a tooth, it is important to see the dentist right away. The type of treatment required for a chipped or broken tooth depends largely on the location of the broken or chipped tooth, the severity of the damage and many other factors.
For a tooth with a small chip, your dentist may recommend fixing it with a filling or bond. These procedures can usually be completed in one office visit and do not require extensive dental work or crowns to be placed on the teeth.
For more severe tooth damage, the dentist may recommend a more advanced therapy. If a large part of the tooth breaks, your dentist may recommend a dental cap or crown to help fix it.
In severe cases where the tooth is broken off, but the root structure is still intact, the dentist will likely refer your child to an endodontist who specializes in root canal therapies. The endodontist will most likely perform a root canal to prevent infection.
