When it comes to kids and oral health, the Lilburn Kool Smiles team has the experience you want for your children. In addition to general dentists and orthodontists, our office has pedodontists (pediatric dentists), who specialize in kid’s dental care. Each dentist is approved by the Georgia Board of Dentistry and receives additional training from the Kool Smiles internal team.
Beyond our team of fantastic general dentists in Lilburn, this Kool Smiles location also has in-house pediatric dentists and an orthodontist. For those unfamiliar with dental health, it can be easy to confuse a general dentist who treats kids with a pediatric dentist.
So what do pediatric dentists do? These dental specialists take a few extra years of education and are specifically trained to handle problems in children’s dental health. Most children are treated by general dentists, but your dentist might recommend a pediatric dentist if your child needs specialized care. Typically, you’ll want to see a general dentist first, as they usually have a familiarity with both your child and your family and can spot developing problems as the come about.
It can be difficult for families to find a dental office that fits both their needs and their budget. Unfortunately, great dental care is often out of reach for families in underserved communities because of high prices and faraway locations.
At Kool Smiles, we’re proud to help bridge that gap and make dental care an accessible and convenient option. Many of our locations are positioned in those very same underserved communities. We also work with families to find payment plans that fit their budget and needs. We accept most insurance plans, including Medicaid and TRICARE, to make our great dental care accessible to as many people as possible.
Our Lilburn office is even open on Saturdays to help broaden access to these services.
Most parents are aware that they should be taking their child to the dentist, especially if they see problems developing. But when does this start?
The truth is relatively simple. According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, you should bring your child to the dentist for the first time before they reach their first birthday. That is usually when their first teeth start coming in.
It’s never too early to start thinking about your child’s dental health. There are always steps you can take to lay the foundation for a healthy mouth even when your child is in infancy. Fortunately, they’re also usually pretty easy! When your child is an infant, and before their teeth have erupted, take a clean, damp washcloth and rub it along the baby’s upper and lower gums to clean them.
When their teeth first erupt, you can start caring for them by brushing two to three times a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and water. As they grow, look for toothpastes that are designed specifically for children.
Caring for your children’s teeth early and consistently can result in long-term benefits for your kids. Take the steps necessary to protect the developmental stage of their oral health both at home and with professionals.”
Taking your child to the dentist as soon as their teeth erupt can help both you and them as they grow. We can give you tips on how to ensure your child’s oral health is cared for, and we can begin establishing a relationship with your child to spot any issues that could arise.
